Just after finishing her graduate degree, Dr. Kristy Kyle found the first great love of her life – her white and brown chihuahua named Shug. Shug was quickly joined by Celie, another chihuahua, and Dr. Kyle realized that caring for these “littles” was how she wanted to spend her professional life. “My background was biology and philosophy, two disciplines that aren’t often found together today, but we actually deeply integrated historically. Philosophy teaches you how to think, problem solve, and evaluate, and veterinary medicine was the perfect place for me to use that skill in a scientific way to improve the health and happiness of companion animals.”
In 2013, Dr. Kyle joined with Dr. Flores to start Bayou City Veterinary Hospital. It’s here where Dr. Kyle is able to work with her team to create a work environment that provides exceptional pet care by hiring the best staff, maintaining state-of-the-art facilities, and working cooperatively for the health of each pet. “We truly believe that we only succeed if all of us succeed together. And we put this into practice by taking care of each other so that we can take care of our clients and their beloved pets.” It is this commitment that has made Bayou City Veterinary Hospital the “unicorn” of Houston’s small animal veterinary practices.
When she’s not in the office, Dr. Kyle spends time with her wife Christa, their son Townes, and their three cats and two dogs. Shug and Celie are no longer with us, but their lives opened up possibilities for Dr. Kyle. And that’s what we all know our pets can do for us – the love they give us is transformative. We are so lucky to be able to care for them in return.

Dr. Kate Kirby, has been with Bayou City Veterinary Hospital since 2016. She grew up in Houston, Texas, went to Texas Tech for undergrad and then received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University. Prior to veterinary school, she was as an event planner/catering director for a prestigious country club in Kentucky. Although she enjoyed the job she knew her passion was animal medicine and left to pursue her dream as a vet and hasn’t looked back. Her favorite part of being a vet is being able to help the animals in her community. She feels privilege to see her patients, happy and healthy, at local dog parks or out walking with their people. Outside of being a proud neighborhood vet, she thoroughly enjoys traveling, running, reading/podcast, and walking her 3 dogs, a border collie, a chatty mini Aussie, and a miniature poodle around the neighborhood.
